today we welcomed our first baby after 9 long months. Macie Sarai was born in L.A. at 9:17 a.m. and weighed 7 lbs. 7oz. she is a beautiful miracle, and I can't wait to get her home. thanks for all of the well wishes!

i am excited to announce that we have launched the website for the new album entitled "Bronze" that I co-led with tenor saxophonist Mark Small. the site is still under construction, but please visit it and look for the album release on the itunes music store within the next week or so.

07.28.07 | Walter Smith III joins the faculty at LACHSA and Cal State L.A.
I am proud to announce that starting in September, I will be joining the faculty at the Los Angeles Performing Arts High School and Cal State L.A. University. There are some extremely talented young musicians that all have great attitudes and tons of potential, and I am excited to get the chance to work with them on a regular basis.

Christian Scott's 2006 release titled "Rewind That" on which I appeared was nominated for Best Contemporary Jazz Album (category 45). The other nominees in that category are Bela Fleck, Mike Stern, Groove Collective and Sex Mob.

Michael Buble's 2006 DVD release entitled "Caught in the Act" recieved a nod from the grammy commitee in the Traditional/Pop category.

Good luck to both and hopefully they do well....
